Clayton Kershaw nabbed his 209th win of his career and Mookie Betts homered his 36th of the season setting a new career-high single-season record in Tuesday night’s 9-1 win over Arizona.

With the W, the second straight of their 3-game series vs. the Diamondbacks, the Dodgers secured their 9th straight series. They have won every series they played in August.

Mookie BeTts’ puts his name up for MVP consideration

Betts, who is having a phenomenal season in 2023, continued his campaign to be considered for the National League’s MVP award as he homered in the bottom of the 6th to set a new career high of 36 home runs.

There are still 30 games remaining in the Dodgers’ regular season calendar so there is plenty of opportunity for Betts to keep adding to what could be considered the best season of his career.

In 10 years in the MLB, the multi-faceted player has 249 home runs to his name.

Betts is averaging .314 with an on-base percentage of .340 and slugging percentage of .533 in 2023.

The current favorite to win the MVP for the National League is Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña.

Kershaw’s milestone win

Kershaw achieved his 12th win of the season, taking his career total up to 209. He is now tied in second place of the Dodgers’ all-time list with Don Drysdale.

Don Sutton holds the franchise record with 233 wins, a feat that is certainly achievable for the 35-year-old pitcher if he can continue to stay healthy and if he manages to get another contract extension with Los Angeles at the end of the season.

Kershaw allowed only one run in the game. Corbin Carroll hit a solo HR in the 5th. Only 5 other Diamondbacks players reached the bases during the game.

The 16-season veteran stayed on the mound for 5 innings, achieving 5 strikeouts and finishing his night with a 2.48 ERA.

Looking ahead at the postseason, the Dodgers are being extra careful with Kershaw after he missed a full month of action with a shoulder injury earlier in the season.

LA’s record is now at 82-49 after their second consecutive win against Arizona in their three-game series.

The last game between the two will start on Wednesday at 10:10 pm ET. Ryan Pepiot will start for the locals while Brandon Pfaadt will take the mound first for the Diamondbacks.
