Caleb Williams is poised to be the NFL’s next great quarterback, with the talent and determination to succeed at the highest level. However, recent NFL history serves as a reminder that success in the league is far from guaranteed, particularly for quarterbacks.
ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller, speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, cautioned against comparing Williams to Patrick Mahomes, emphasizing the uncertainties of the NFL.

“Chicago has done a great job of building a framework around [Williams], which is incredibly important,” Miller said.
“I would say 90 percent chance he’s a Pro Bowl quarterback and he’s going to lead Chicago to a sustained run of being a contender.
“But I wouldn’t want to say, ‘Hey, here’s the next Patrick Mahomes just waiting for the Bears to select him,’ because there’s too many risk factors.”
Despite winning the Heisman Trophy a season ago, Williams faced criticism for fumbling issues and emotional displays on the field during his final season at USC.
A franchise quarterback for Chicago
Nonetheless, Miller remains bullish on Williams, particularly in his new role with the Chicago Bears. The Bears recently moved on from former first-round pick Justin Fields to make way for Williams, a 6-foot-1-inch, 214-pound quarterback considered by many to be the franchise quarterback Chicago has long awaited.
“I just talked to an NFL general manager last week about Caleb and he was like, ‘Love him,’ ” Miller said.
“The cool thing is that his teammates love him.”
Born in Washington, D.C., Williams rose to prominence in high school before facing disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
His breakthrough moment came in Oklahoma‘s showdown against Texas, where he led the Sooners to an unforgettable comeback victory, completing 16-of-25 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 88 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown.
