Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford have returned to training at Carrington ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal on Sunday.

Mail Sport revealed earlier this week that Martinez has set his sights on being for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25 and was hoping to get some minutes under his belt in the remaining three Premier League games, possibly as soon as Arsenal.

Martinez has made just 11 appearances this season. He needed a second operation on a broken metatarsal, sustained a knee ligament damage against West Ham four games into his comeback in February, and then suffered a calf strain in training after returning for one game against Brentford in March.

The former Ajax player’s absence has been even more keenly felt because Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala have been sidelined as well.

Evans made his return at Crystal Palace on Monday alongside emergency centre-back Casemiro, but it didn’t go well as United suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.

Ten Hag will be hoping that either Varane or Maguire can return in time to play alongside Martinez against City at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Rashford hasn’t played since limping out of the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry, missing the last three games against Sheffield United, Burnley and Palace.

The England forward is in contention to make his 400th career appearance for United against Arsenal, having made his Premier League debut and scored twice against the Gunners in 2016.
