In a significant revelation casting a shadow over the sports industry, Denver Broncos defensive lineman Enyi Uwazurike is reported to have placed wagers on college and NFL games he was personally involved in, as indicated by documents provided to the Des Moines Register by the Story County attorney.
How much money was Uwazurike wagering?
The documents unveil Uwazurike‘s alleged engagement in mobile online sports betting through an account on FanDuel. According to the complaint, the account associated with the former Iowa State player carried out roughly 801 wagers, culminating in a sum exceeding $21,361. Notably, among these bets were four instances on Iowa State football games in which Uwazurike participated. These included the September 11, 2021 match against Iowa, and the October 2, 2021 game against Kansas.
The report also suggests that Uwazurike didn’t limit his betting activities to his college games but extended it to his professional career. It alleges that the same FanDuel account linked to Uwazurike placed “approximately 32” bets on games involving the Denver Broncos, as well as individual players from the team. Among these were five Broncos games, including two in which Uwazurike himself featured – the games of December 11, 2022, against the Kansas City Chiefs and December 18, 2022, against the Arizona Cardinals.

Denver Broncos’ fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Uwazurike, was handed an indefinite suspension by the NFL last month on account of allegations of his betting on NFL games.
Before making the transition to the NFL Uwazurike spent six seasons with Iowa State, leaving a commendable legacy in his wake. His career boasts of 46 starts and playing in 60 games, making him the second player in the school’s history to participate in the most games. The former defensive lineman concluded his illustrious career with 144 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss, 15.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries, 15 quarterback hurries, and two blocked field goals. Yet, these recent allegations pose a significant challenge to his past accolades and future prospects.
