FA Cup fixtures today – your guide to Sunday’s games

The FA Cup third round is well underway for the 2023/24 campaign, with more tantalising encounters to come on Sunday.

Current FA Cup holders Manchester City will be in action as they face what appears a fairly straightforward home tie with Huddersfield Town, while Hollywood League Two side Wrexham travel to Shrewsbury Town.

However, the big event comes in the day’s late kick-off when Arsenal host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium as the two title challengers take a break from Premier League duties.

Here is your guide to Sunday’s FA Cup third round matches.

Wrexham could very well be in League One alongside Shrewsbury next season, but for now a victory for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s side at New Meadow would technically be classed as an underdog story.

The Red Dragons currently sit third in League Two, but have been in brilliant recent form as they climb the table. Phil Parkinson will be hopeful his side can cause a few upsets in this year’s FA Cup, although they will have to conquer Shrewsbury first.

Currently residing in 13th in League One, the Shrews have only won one of their last five games, but have already beaten Wrexham’s old National League rivals Notts County in the FA Cup second round.

Man City have often been accused of benefitting from rather simplistic draws in the domestic cup competitions and that is certainly the case this year for the holders. Pep Guardiola’s side welcome Huddersfield to Manchester, a team they beat 6-1 in the Terriers’ last visit to the Etihad.

The current world champions are likely to rotate heavily for Huddersfield’s arrival, but they should still waltz to a comfortable victory on Sunday.

The Terriers have only won one of their last eight matches, results which have seen them slump to 21st in the Championship table. They sit just three points above the relegation zone, with the FA Cup likely not their number one priority this season.

Having clashed just before Christmas in the Premier League at Anfield – a 1-1 draw that saw both teams drop points in the title race – Arsenal and Liverpool now meet in the third round of the FA Cup. The Gunners have won the competition a record 14 times, while the Reds have eight trophies to their name.

Arsenal, who have lost their last two games in the Premier League to West Ham United and Fulham, will be eager to get back to winning ways, although both sides may be likely to field weakened sides at the Emirates.

Liverpool are the current Premier League table-toppers, but will be without Mohamed Salah for their trip to north London. The Reds have been in fantastic form though and will fancy their chances of delivering a psychological blow to Arsenal on Sunday.
