In his second year of participation in Mr. Olympia, American Derek Lunsford has been proclaimed champion, ahead of another of the favourites and last year’s winner, the Iranian Hadi Choopan, nicknamed ‘The Persian Wolf’.
Lunsford, who finished second in his 2022 open category debut, becomes the first bodybuilder to win in two divisions, as he also won in the 212 category in 2021.

The American, a former footballer and also an up-and-coming wrestler, beat Choopan, who did not take kindly to the defeat and left the stage as soon as he learned of his second-place finish. The podium was completed by Samson Dauda.
Angel Calderon, bronze in 212 lbs category
Spain’s Angel Calderon took bronze in the 212lb category, with Keone Pearson winning and Shaun Clarida taking silver.
Although the Spaniard showed an improved version of his physique on stage compared to last year, when he came second, the judges felt it was not enough and he came third behind the locals Pearson and Clarida.
