Brock Purdy‘s 10-0 regular-season record hasn’t been enough to win everybody over — but more and more praise is coming the way of the San Francisco 49ers‘ quarterback as his team continues to win handily.

In the wake of San Francisco‘s 42-10 demolition of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Purdy garnered a comparison to 49ers legend Joe Montana — and statistics show that it might not be so far-fetched,

Ryan bowled over by Brock

“Just put a 16 on his jersey,” Ryan said. “That’s who he reminds me of — Joe Montana.”

Of course, Montana‘s #16 jersey has long been retired by the 49ers, in tribute to the four Super Bowl championships and countless memories made with the franchise in the 1980s. But Purdy — humming along at 72 percent passing accuracy, with nine touchdowns to zero interceptions this season — is quickly putting his own stamp on the quarterback position in San Francisco, which has been a revolving door in recent years.

Not bad for a guy who was literally the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

“His mobility, how accurate the kid is with the football, the poise that he has. This dude is so confident, he’s got that swag, that natural swag he has,” Ryan continued. “This kid is absolutely spectacular.”

Six wins for history

Purdy is more than halfway to the NFL record for consecutive quarterback wins to begin a career. That record belongs to Ben Roethlisberger, who — in another indication of where Purdy‘s career might be heading — was the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ quarterback for nearly two decades and led them to two Super Bowl wins.

Roethlisberger took the reins as a rookie in 2004 and led the Steelers to 13 consecutive regular-season wins before a loss in that season’s AFC Championship. “Big Ben” won the first three games of the 2005 season as well for a total of 16 straight wins in the regular season.

Assuming the 5-0 Niners remain unbeaten, Purdy could surpass this mark in Week 13 against the team that knocked him out of the NFC Championship last season — the Philadelphia Eagles.
