Kansas City Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt has jumped to the defence of kicker Harrison Butker, telling the NFL star he has her “respect” after coming under fire for comments he made about women.

Butker has been widely criticized for suggesting women are better off being mothers and urged them to become “homemakers” due to the experience he had growing up.

The 28-year-old’s commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas City, quickly swept across the internet and went viral after addressing their female graduates – giving them advice which was slammed as being outdated.

When asked by presenter Steve Doocy for her thoughts on Butker‘s comments, Gracie – the daughter of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt – fully agreed with the three-time Super Bowl winner’s opinion.

“I can only speak from my own experience, which is I had the most incredible mom who had the ability to stay home and be with us as kids growing up,” Hunt said on Fox & Friends.

“And I understand that there are many women out there who can’t make that decision but for me in my life, I know it was really formative in shaping me and my siblings to be who we are.”

She was then asked if she “understood” what Butker was talking about, to which Hunt replied: “For sure, I really respect Harrison and his Christian faith and what he’s accomplished on and off the field.”

NFL respond to Buker’s comments

In his speech, Butker said women shouldn’t be told “diabolical lies” about pursuing a successful career – and urged them to be “excited” about their potential future marriages and children. He also referred to Taylor Swift as “my teammate’s girlfriend”.

“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment,” he said on Saturday.

“You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. I want to speak directly to you briefly, because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.

“How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?

“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

The NFL has issued a statement saying Butker‘s comments do not reflect the league’s values, but appeared to suggest they would not take action against him as they were “made in his personal capacity”.
