Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman teamed up with Wrexham enthusiasts to witness the club’s triumphant return to the Football League after a 15-year hiatus. The iconic Wolverine actor joined forces with celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney for Wrexham AFC’s inaugural match in football’s fourth tier since 2008.

This league comeback has been an absolute dream-come-true for the enduring fans. Sandy Domingos-Shipley, hailing from Toronto, Canada, couldn’t help but share her excitement, saying, “I’m basically continuing the party from the last game in Wrexham that went on till 4 am.”

Sandy, who had spent a few years in the UK, revealed her knack for gathering fellow Canadians in Wrexham, turning it into a rendezvous point. “We started with about 60 people and now we’ve got a whopping 180. They’re joining from all around the world,” she explained, praising the warm welcome the community extended to them.

Fans flocked to see their team

Before the match, devoted fans flocked outside Wrexham’s grounds, eager for a glimpse of celebrity contenders. Their enthusiasm was duly rewarded when Jackman took a moment to wave at them. Back in February, Jackman disclosed to the BBC that several of Wrexham’s rival teams had offered him co-ownership once Reynolds acquired the Welsh club. The ongoing playful rivalry between the two stars has been the talk of the town for years.

The Collins family, avid season ticket holders, was also anticipating a triumphant kickoff to the new season. Dan Collins expressed his admiration, “They’ve done something extraordinary, unlocking the club and town’s potential, and it all began with their investment.”

The sense of community extended even further, with numerous groups receiving complimentary match tickets, ensuring the club remains inclusive. Sam Jones, representing Dynamic Wrexham, a charity assisting young individuals with disabilities, was thrilled by the initiative. “It’s absolutely fantastic. The ticket scheme has reached 56 different community groups, totaling around 5,000 tickets.”
