Police are appealing for information after a 10–year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run in Barnsley yesterday.

It is reported that at 5.55pm on Tuesday (May 14), police were contacted by the ambulance service about a road traffic collision involving a grey van and a young boy on Church Street, Brierley.

The 10-year-old boy suffered injuries including a fractured cheekbone in the collision. He was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The van driver drove away from the scene following the collision. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the van and trace the driver, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police has said.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or captured the incident on dashcam to contact them. A police spokesperson added: “If you witnessed the collision, or have dash-cam footage which could assist the investigation, please call 101 quoting incident number 792 of 14 May 2024 when you get in touch.
