“See you tomorrow.”

Most people hear this phrase every day from friends or coworkers and don’t even blink. But when Inter Miami posted that quote on their official social media accounts alongside a photo of Lionel Messi, it caused fans to think twice, and ignited speculation that Messi’s long-awaited MLS return will be Wednesday against FC Cincinnati.

Maybe the social media manager for the Miami club is simply talking to the fans by saying “see you tomorrow.” But with Messi as the only subject in the photo, it could be a clever play on words, teasing that a return for the 36-year-old is finally coming.

Messi was back in training with Inter Miami

Inter Miami received some great news on Friday. Lionel Messi joined his teammates for the training session in the muscle activation round.

So, the fans of the Florida team were already speculating a date for the return of their star player: this Saturday, October 7, in the match against Cincinnati at the DRV PNK Stadium.

Will Messi play Inter Miami’s next match?

Coach Tata Martino is eagerly anticipating Messi’s return, as it would provide the team with a much-needed boost in confidence for the remaining matches. With FC Cincinnati leading the MLS Eastern Conference standings, Inter Miami can expect a tough match at home. However, with Messi on the pitch, they beat the Ohio club back in August thanks to a pair of assists from No. 10.

The Pink and Black undoubtedly need Messi in order to have a chance in this match, and also the rest of the season. With Messi in the lineup, Inter Miami still has not lost a game.

Where is Inter Miami in the MLS Playoff standings?

After Cincinnati, the final two MLS fixtures for Inter Miami are two clashes with Charlotte FC, with the first game scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, in Florida and the second on Saturday, October 21, in North Carolina.

In the new MLS playoff format, the top seven teams in each conference automatically qualify for postseason, while the eighth and ninth-placed teams in each conference compete in a single-elimination playoff for the final spot.

With Inter Miami currently outside the top seven, they need a remarkable turnaround and Messi’s contribution to have any chance of making it to the postseason.

Currently sitting 14th in the Eastern Conference with 33 points from 31 games, Miami face an uphill battle to secure the final playoff spot, currently held by Montreal, who are in ninth place with 38 points from 32 games.
