Inter Miami began its preseason tour on Friday night, taking on the El Salvador national team in the capital city, San Salvador. The match ended 0-0, as neither side was able to create many scoring chances.

Newly signed Luis Suarez started the game from the jump, as did Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

How did Messi and Suarez do in their first game together?

Messi and Suarez didn’t get to link up all that much, but the two used their Barca counterparts in conjunction to create the best play of the game. It nearly ended in a stunning goal for Messi, but Salvadorian goalkeeper Mario Gonzalez made a fantastic save (and followed it up with another).

There wasn’t much action from either side in the first half, so Miami manager Tata Martino decided he had seen enough from his stars. Messi, Suarez, Busquets and Alba all came off at halftime.

The second half wasn’t much more entertaining, as the teams finished the match with 16 total shots and only five shots on target combined.

The only crucial development that arose from this game was an injury to Miami’s Facundo Farias. The 21-year-old had to be taken off on a stretcher after suffering an apparent knee injury.

It’s a tough break for Farias and an Inter Miami team that needs the talented youngster to play a big role this season. Hopefully, it’s not too serious.

Miami’s next game will come on Monday, January 22. They will play against FC Dallas at the Cotton Bowl.
