Abreu will play Triple-A in Florida
With his batting average plummeting to a career-low .099 through 22 games, Abreu’s struggles at the plate have prompted the Astros to take decisive action.
Astros General Manager Dana Brown confirmed that Abreu will be heading to the team’s Triple-A affiliate in West Palm Beach, Florida, to focus on refining his swing and timing.
“We met with Jose (Abreu) on this, and we both agree that this move will be good for him and for the team in the long run,”Brown stated.
Abreu, known for his stellar contributions during his tenure with the Chicago White Sox, has struggled to replicate his previous success since joining the Astros.
In 77 plate appearances this season, he has managed only seven hits, three RBI, and no home runs, accompanied by a staggering 18 strikeouts.
Speaking about his performance, Abreu expressed his frustration, acknowledging the disappointment he feels in not meeting expectations.
“The people in this organization brought me here to do a good job. I haven’t done that,” Abreu lamented.
Astros expect Abreu to bounce back
Despite the setback, both Abreu and the Astros remain optimistic about his ability to bounce back.
Brown emphasized that the decision was made with Abreu’s best interests in mind, aiming to provide him with the opportunity to regain his form and contribute positively to the team’s success.
“This move tells us about his dedication and commitment,”Brown remarked, highlighting Abreu’s willingness to accept the decision.
He also reassured that the move is not intended to be long-term, with both parties hopeful for a swift return to form.
Abreu’s struggles come at a challenging time for the Astros, who have stumbled out of the gate this season with a 10-19 record.
As they seek to turn their fortunes around, Abreu’s temporary absence from the lineup underscores the team’s commitment to addressing performance issues head-on.
Despite his recent setbacks, Abreu’s track record as a formidable hitter remains undeniable.
