On Tuesday, the Newport Beach Police Department confirmed they opened an investigation that would look into the case of Josh Giddey and his possible involvement with an underage girl. This young woman’s name is reported as Livv Cook by the posts that were leaked online but her full name hasn’t been reported yet. The local authorities have attempted to reach out to her and her family in order to inquire about the Oklahoma City Thunder player’s role in all of this. But according to TMZ, neither her nor her family agreed to talk to the police. Police was trying to get to the bottom of what happened at a night club in the town about a year ago but this prevents them from continuing their investigation.

This report confirms what Andrew Bogut said on Tuesday as well, that Livv Cook’s family is not interested on ruining Josh Giddey’s career. And it also suggests that Livv Cook actually my have lied to Josh Giddey about her age when they met. If the girl and her family don’t cooperate with the investigation, nobody will ever get to know the truth of what happened or any details involving this. Becuase whether this was consensual or if it happened at all, the lack of evidence or proof completely kills the case. Josh Giddey is fortunate that Livv Cook’s parents are apparently not pressing any charges against him because his career hangs from a thread.
Will Livv Cook’s parents stay quiet forever?
As far as right now, there seems to be no indication that Livv Cook’s family is not willing to cooperate with the police. However, that does not mean they will never talk to the authorities. TMZ suggests Livv Cook’s family is still trying to gather all the information they can in order to have all the cards on the table. The accusations against Josh Giddey online suggest he knowingly got involved with an underage girl after photos and videos that depicted them together leaked online. Giddey is not out of the woods yet because the NBA is also conducting an investigation into this matter and their findings will be the ones that matter the most.
If the league considers Josh Giddey did something illegal with knowledge that the girl was underage, they will have to act swiftly in accordance to the law. Thus far, Josh Giddey has refused to speak about the incident but the situation is currently in his favor. But the local authorities and local media will start investigating all of the player’s activities in the area as thoroughly as possible. Any findings they have, will be made public and help with the ongoing investigation. Giddey played against the Minnesota Timberwolves and found plenty of opposition as Wolves fans booed him throughout the 28 minutes he was on the court. He scored 10 points in the Thunder’s 106-103 loss against Minnesota.
