Former NBA player Andrew Bogut has advised young basketball star Josh Giddey to “tighten his circle” amidst an NBA investigation into claims of an inappropriate relationship with a minor.
The 21-year-old shooting guard is considered one of the NBA‘s brightest talents and has lucrative sponsorship deals, including a $40 million ambassadorship with Weet-Bix, which is closely monitoring the investigation.
Bogut’s piece of advice
Bogut discussed the situation on his podcast and urged Giddey to focus on basketball amid rumors about an alleged affair with an underage girl.
“It’s just an absolute s***show as it is on social media,” Bogut said.
“The damage has been done to his PR regardless of what the result is.
“We’ve had trial by media over the last 30 years and now trial by social media is probably a hundred times worse.
“He’s got so much to lose. Regardless of what comes out in the next week or two … all the memes and all this s*** now, that’s going to be there forever. It’s hard to take it back on social media.
“It’s just a s****y situation for everyone involved.
“It’s a valuable lesson for Josh. He’s got to tighten his circle and focus on that because he’s only in this thing for 10 or 15 years.
“From what I understand and knew, he’s never been a guy that’s gotten in trouble or knowingly wanted to go out and be silly.”
