Jude Bellingham has revelled in doing “something great” in his first ever El Clasico, having scored a game-winning brace for Real Madrid on Saturday.

The England star was kept fairly quiet by midfield counterpart Gavi for the opening 65 minutes of his maiden El Clasico at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, but sparked into life thereafter.

Bellingham drew his side level with a stunning 25-yard strike in the 65th minute, before popping up in the 92nd minute to complete the Los Blancos comeback – racing into the six yard box to prod home the winning goal.

The goals were Bellingham’s 12th and 13th in all competitions already this season, with his incredible start to life at Madrid leading many to call the 20-year-old the best footballer in the world right now.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the victory, Bellingham revealed his delight at being the match-winner in his first ever El Clasico, saying:

“I just spoke to my family, but with the noise it was difficult to hear them well. I told them I was excited before the game. I had watched many Clasicos from the sofa with my family and I told them that today it was my turn to live it firsthand and do something great. I’ve done that and I’m very happy.

“It was a good day. Neither myself nor the team were at our best, but we kept playing and little by little we started to put pressure on their midfield and defence. Then we got our reward. We showed belief and character and we took the three points.

“Right now everything is going well for me. I’m preparing well for the games, I’m starting well and learning from my teammates and coaches. I just want to improve and help the team to win. Thanks to my qualities I can help and I want to continue to do so.”

Bellingham also gave an insight into how his first goal of the game came about, admitting that he’s been keen to score a goal from outside the box for a number of weeks:

“I got the ball on the edge of the box. I’ve been saying for a few weeks that I need to try from outside. Maybe the opponents expect me to try to get into the box or combine with a teammate and I wanted to surprise them by hitting it from outside the box. I know I have the technique and it went into the top corner.”
