The Prince and Princess of Wales have issued a statement to thank people for their “warmth and support” since Kate revealed she is receiving treatment for cancer.

It comes after Kate Middleton and Prince William broke cover for the first time on Saturday since the announcement.

On Friday evening, Kate confirmed she is undergoing “preventative chemotherapy” after a form of cancer was discovered following her abdominal surgery.

She said she had assured her children, George, 10, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five, she is “well and getting stronger every day”. And in a new statement released on Saturday night, the Prince and Princess of Wales directly thanked people for their response to the news.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal ­Highness’ message.

“They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”
