Hawn and Russell first crossed paths in 1966 when she was 21 and he was 16. They auditioned for “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band,” together.

“I thought he was adorable but I thought he was way too young,” Hawn recalled once. He made a good impression on her. “He was so good-looking, but he had no pretense about him. I could tell right away he wasn’t a womanizer,” Hawn remembered during a May 2017 interview.

At the time, she was already a mother of two. According to her, the way Russell interacted with her kids made her fall in love with him. “He was amazing with them. He was such a natural,” she recounted.

The pair reunited during the filming of “Swing Shift” in 1983. Russell recalled meeting Hawn for the second time, saying when he first laid eyes on her years after they first met, all he could think about was that she had a great figure, and those were the first words he uttered to her.

Despite both of them swearing not to date fellow actors, they fell in love with each other regardless. In a joint interview in November 2020, Russell explained that at that point in his life, he had set out to put his “worst foot forward” when it came to being in a relationship.

Hawn then chimed in, saying had he done that, she would not have ended up dating him. Regardless, the two have been going strong since as they have been romantically involved for four decades.

When asked about the secret of their long-lasting love, Russell joked, “If you’re lucky enough to get with Goldie Hawn, it’s just however long she can put up with you.” He described her as “the whole package.”

In a joint interview in November 2020, the couple was asked the same question and Russell commented, “If we knew that, we’d put it in a bottle, sell it, and say, ‘So long!’” Meanwhile, Hawn explained, “The answer lies within you…[…] It’s just being conscious, knowing what you want…”

Hawn and Russell even presented together at the Oscar Awards in 1989 where they joked about not being married. Hawn wore a Versace gown for the event, choosing to wear a flowing duck egg blue garment with a matching shawl and wrist strap bag. She accessorized with micro sunglasses.

Russell, on the other hand, opted for a classic black tuxedo. The pair also attended the Oscars back in 2001, and Hawn donned a golden beaded gown at the time.

“Happy birthday baby! What a wild ride. No, we never got married but one thing that continues to grow is our love. You’re a wild one, brilliant, lovable, childlike, perfectly maddening, a father supreme and deeply funny!I can’t imagine my life without you at any age, Kurt Russell,” Hawn captioned the post.

Hawn reflected on that period and posted a clip from the award ceremony in March 2021 while paying a birthday tribute to her love on her Instagram account.
