Kylian Mbappe has been the subject of a world record bid from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

The Frenchman wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain, with an eventual move to Real Madrid inevitable, but could arguably the world’s best succumb to the financial allure of Saudi Arabia and enjoy what will likely be a brief stay in the Middle East?

Al Hilal, one of the four Saudi clubs owned by the country’s Public Investment Fund, have tabled a monstrous £259m offer to sign Mbappe this summer. PSG, who are keen to sell their star for a fee before his contract expires in 2024, have accepted this proposal and the ball is now in Mbappe’s court.

Should the superstar accept, he’ll become the highest-paid athlete on the planet by a ludicrous margin.

The figures are obscene.

On top of the £259m Al Hilal would hand to PSG, they’re also offering Mbappe a one-year salary worth a staggering £604m. Let’s break that down.

£50.39m a month. £11.49m a week, £1.64m a day. £69,920m an hour. £1,150 a minute, £19 per second.

Mbappe’s proposed salary may dwarf Benzema’s at Al Ittihad, but the Frenchman won’t exactly be strapped for cash out in Saudi Arabia.

The contemporary Real Madrid icon signed a three-year deal worth just shy of £172.77m a year earlier this summer. Benzema had previously earned less than £17.5m a year at Real (poor bloke) before making the move, but he currently isn’t the highest-paid footballer in the world.

The pioneer. Ronaldo’s move to Al Nassr at the end of 2022 kick-started a chain of events that culminated in Al Hilal’s insane salary offer to Mbappe.

The global megastar is way beyond the peak of his powers and was unable to inspire his side to the league title last season, but Al Nassr understandably still offered him a monster salary. Ronaldo once again became the highest-paid athlete on the planet when he signed his contract with the Saudi club.

The Portuguese international is reportedly earning £177.1m a year with Al Nassr. Still, Mbappe would be earning almost four times that amount should he opt for a Middle Eastern venture.
