The beautiful summer weather of the past week are set to come to an abrupt end tonight as West Yorkshire braces itself for torrential rain and epic thunderstorms.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow weather warning for the west of the country, taking in Huddersfield, Calderdale, Bradford and Leeds, as well as South Yorkshire, including Sheffield. Already, the heavens have opened in Todmorden with thunder rumbling in the skies.

The Met Office says thunderstorms hill hit Huddersfield between 9pm and 10pm tonight but the warning is in place for the rest of today, Monday and Tuesday.

The weather service said the warning could leave spray and sudden flooding leading to difficult driving conditions. This could also affect trains and buses while power cuts may take place.

The Met Office said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to some disruption in places, especially to travel. Isolated property flooding is possible.”
