Lizzo has shocked her fans by announcing on Instagram that she’s “done” with the music industry. In her post, she wrote: “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”

She added: “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.” She also expressed frustration about lies being spread about her for attention and views, and feeling like she’s always the butt of the joke because of her appearance.

She ended her post by saying: “My character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this s***. I quit,” followed by a peace sign emoji. This comes after allegations last year that she sexually harassed her backup dancers.

Her first public appearance since these claims was at the Grammy Awards last month where she presented the award for Best RandB Song to SZA. Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, was named in a lawsuit along with her touring company and her dance captain Shirlene Quigley, accusing her of creating a hostile work environment and sexual harassment, reports the Mirror.

In the lawsuit, three dancers who worked with Lizzo said she made them touch naked people at a strip club in Amsterdam. They also claimed they were taken to the club without knowing where they were going.

Lizzo has denied the claims. “These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behaviour on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional,” Lizzo commented on the accusations, “As an artist, I have always been very passionate about what I do. I take my music and my performances seriously because, at the end of the day, I only want to put out the best art that represents me and my fans.”

We don’t know if these bad claims are why Lizzo might stop making music, but they could be part of it. Some people have also been mean about her size, saying she’s too big to be a famous singer. Lizzo’s fans wrote messages asking her not to quit music. “You have and continue to help so many. Please don’t give up we need and love you! ! ” one fan said.

Another fan shared: “I don’t know if it helps, but you’ve definitely helped me feel more confident and brave to post. I think you’re amazing and its unfair how people treat bigger black women on the internet. You don’t deserve all this, I do hope it stops soon.”
