Luton 0-0 Tottenham

Yves Bissouma was booked for Spurs in giving away the free kick that led to the disallowed goal.

It is his fifth booking of the season, which means a suspension for the Spurs midfielder.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

Luton have the ball in the Spurs net, but it is not going to count.

A free kick into the box causes chaos. Adebayo has an effort that loops and drops off the post.

Tom Lockyer nods the ball over the line.

However the whistle had gone for clear push from Adebayo on Cristian Romero.

VAR Michael Oliver confirms the on field decision.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

The three most recent fixtures between these two sides in Luton have all finished goalless.

These were all a long time ago in fairness.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

Carlton Morris is harshly booked for Luton for leading with his arm in an aerial duel with Richarlison.

Not much in that.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

A free kick to Spurs in a dangerous position as Marvelous Nakamba drags back James Maddison.

The Spurs playmaker takes the resulting free kick and curls his effort over the bar.

The frustration grows for the visitors.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

Super stop!

Thomas Kaminski dives to his right to turn Kulusevski’s low effort wide of the target.

That was destined for the bottom corner from the Swede.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

The noise level lifts as Luton win their first corner.

Carlton Morris meets the set piece, but it is off his shoulder and drifts harmlessly behind for a goal kick.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

The hosts get their first two efforts on goal of the match.

Luton win the ball back well in the Spurs half but Marvelous Nakamba sends a shot well wide of the target.

Jacob Brown then appeals for a corner after seeing a cross shot go wide.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

Luton captain Tom Lockyer sums up his side’s start by allowing the ball to roll under his foot.

He attempts to recover and fouls James Maddison in the process for a certain yellow card.

Maddison’s free kick is blocked and cleared.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

More chances for Tottenham.

Son sees a shot saved by Thomas Kaminski, before Richarlison curls a shot over the crossbar.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

Not the best quality over the last few minutes.

Richarlison finds touch with a wayward pass, with Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski doing similar a few minutes later.

Micky van der Ven then strides forward from defence to send a long range effort way off the crossbar.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

It is far too easy for Spurs to create chances from a Luton point of view.

Cristian Romero sends a long diagonal forward and James Maddison wins the header, nodding the ball back to Son.

The Spurs captain works and angle and sends a shot high and wide.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

How are Spurs not ahead?

Pedro Porro is the latest to pass up an early chance after being fed through by Son.

Porro pokes an effort goalwards, which rolls narrowly wide of the post.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

Richarlison has another chance but is denied this time by Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

It is a good through ball from Maddison and Richarlison took a touch before firing towards goal.

A good stop though by Kaminski.

All Spurs in the opening stages.

Luton 0-0 Tottenham

What a chance for Richarlison. Spurs should already be a goal up.

Dejan Kulusevski curls a ball to the far post and Richarlison shoots wide of the target with the goal gaping.

The Brazilian will wonder how he didn’t score.

Ange Postecoglou: ‘The players have had an open mind and adapted well’

Postecoglou was asked about Spurs strong start to the season and the turnaround he has overseen from a miserable end to the previous campaign.

‘When I came in, I knew that they had a very difficult year so I had a small window to get them to believe in what we are going to do,’ Postecoglou said.

‘We attempted to do that from the start and given them a sense of clarity and direction.

‘Having results helps accelerate the process, had we struggled my job would have been a little bit harder. Credit to the players, they have had an open mind and adapted well.

‘I said to the lads from day one, anything that doesn’t go well that’s on me, I’ll take the flak for anything that doesn’t work.

On the chance to go top:

‘Being top in October is nothing to be too excited about, all it would show is that we have had a solid start.’

Ange Postecoglou: ‘Hopefully we are talking more about the football than VAR’

Ange Postecoglou has just spoken to TNT Sport, with the Spurs boss hoping today’s clash with Luton avoids the VAR drama of last weekend.

‘No, absolutely not [clearing space for a replay. There has been some focus on it is week. Hopefully we are talking more about the football,’ Postecoglou said.

‘I get why there was a discussion around it because it was such a significant event. For us, today, it is a tough football challenge against a good team.

‘They [Son and Maddison] are in a better space this week than they were last week.

‘Madders has trained all week and Sonny got a good couple of sessions at the back end of the week.

‘We have had a few injuries but the core has been pretty consistent.

Tottenham forward Manor Solomon sidelined for at least two months after suffering a serious knee injury

Tottenham suffered a blow in the week with the confirmation Manor Solomon will be ruled out for at least two months with a knee injury.

Spurs are already without Brennan Johnson and Ivan Perisic, with the latter expected to miss the remainder of the season.

The return of Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso to the Spurs bench today will be a boost.

Rob Edwards: ‘Spurs are a big challenge but we have to enjoy it’

More from Luton boss Rob Edwards, who has been talking up opponents Tottenham.

Edwards believes Spurs will be challenging for Champions League football minimum this season.

‘It is a really exciting challenge and this is what we want,’ Edwards said.

‘When we got promoted we wanted to mix it with the big boys and they are a team now that will be fighting for Champions League football minimum this year.

‘What Ange has done has been really impressive, they have got a great style and top players. He has got them playing aggressive, fast football.

‘They can mix it and they know what is coming today.

‘It will be a big challenge but we have to enjoy it as well.’

Rob Edwards: ‘I don’t think we have got the results the performances have deserved’

Luton boss Rob Edwards has been speaking to TNT Sports ahead of kick-off.

Edwards admits his side face a tough challenge today but has been happy with his squad’s performances so far this season.

‘It is tough, it is hard, we have had a difficult start but the performances in the main have been really good.

‘On Tuesday we had a real go against Burnley. The other night we had a lot of good chances and played well.

‘It is different, it is unique and we try to play on that. I don’t think we have got the results the performances have deserved.

‘We want to get the points now. Today will be really tough.’

TEAM NEWS: Luton make three changes as Tottenham name the same side from their win over Liverpool with Son fit to start

Luton boss Rob Edwards have made three changes from the side beaten by Burnley in midweek.

Amari’i Bell misses out through injury, while Ross Barkley is fit enough to return to the bench.

Tottenham are unchanged from the team that started the 2-1 win over Liverpool last week.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou admits he would be happy if VAR was SCRAPPED from Premier League games

There has been a little bit of fallout from Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Liverpool last weekend it is fair to say.

Spurs benefitied from VAR Darren England failing to award a goal to Luis Diaz, whose strike was incorrectly ruled out for offside.

Ange Postecoglou has admitted he would be in favour of scrapping VAR in its current form.

‘I don’t think technology is ready for our game. I’ve got absolutely zero against goal-line technology, that’s a no-brainer,’ Postecoglou said.

‘With VAR, we think it’s going to eliminate errors and the more we use it, the worse it’s going to get.’

Luton target a first Premier League home win

There has been a lot of talk about Luton needing to turn Kenilworth Road into a fortress to boost their Premier League survival hopes this season.

The Hatters were beaten 2-1 in midweek by Burnley at home, with their record in front of their own supporters this season now standing at one draw and two defeats.

Luton got their first Premier League win last weekend against Everton and Rob Edwards will hope his side can do something similar against Spurs today.

Can Tottenham go top?

Spurs head into the early kick-off with the incentive that a win would send them top of the Premier League.

That is at least until Sunday when leaders and reigning champions Man City face Arsenal in a battle of the expected title challengers.

Given Spurs entered the season having sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, I am sure few would have thought the Ange Postecoglou would have started as impressively.
