M1 ‘racist abuse’ hunt after man hurled insults at group in service station

Officers have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a reported racist abuse.

It was reported that on April 27 at around 8pm at Woodall Northbound Motorway Services on the M1 that a group of people suffered racist verbal abuse from a man. South Yorkshire Police say officers are keen to identify the man in images released as they may be able to help with enquiries.

The man has been described as white, of large build, around six foot tall, with short shaved hair. It is believed he may have been travelling to the Sunderland area at the time.

Anyone with any information has been asked to pass it on to police online here or by calling 101 and quoting the incident number 885 of April 27. You can also submit information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers in Rotherham have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a reported racist abuse incident.

“It is reported that on 27 April around 8pm at Woodall Northbound Motorway Services at the M1, a group of people received verbal racist abuse from a man. Enquiries are ongoing but officers are keen to identify the man in the images as they may be able to assist with enquiries.

“The man is described as white, of large build, around 6ft tall, with short, shaved hair. It is believed he may have been travelling to the Sunderland area at the time. Do you recognise him?”
