Some things in life are simply automatic. Your iPhone will keep accurate time with no action necessary. Your key will lock and unlock your front door. And the Kansas City Chiefs will beat the Denver Broncos — especially if Patrick Mahomes is under center.
Mahomes on Thursday led the Chiefs to their fifth consecutive win, the 19-8 victory over the Broncos bolstering their position atop the AFC West. Mahomes also guided Kansas City to its 16th consecutive win over Denver — and the reigning NFL MVP now has a personal 12-0 record against this opponent, entering into a tie for the best record by a starting quarterback against a single rival.
Broncos made it tough
The low-scoring contest came as a surprise to some, even if Kansas City covered the spread with its 11-point win. Harrison Butker‘s four field goals — one of which snuck in from 60 yards to end the first half — provided most of the Chiefs‘ scoring, and the Broncos only allowed four third-down conversions from 14 tries.
In addition, star safety Justin Simmons picked off Mahomes late in the first quarter — the two-time MVP’s fifth interception of the season already. Although the Chiefs keep winning, Mahomes isn’t quite performing at his best from the first play to the last.

Toney’s TD the difference
Even still, Mahomes and Kadarius Toney linked up for a key touchdown late in the second quarter that pushed the Kansas City lead to 10-0. Denver cut the deficit to eight in the final quarter, but one last Butker bomb — this one, a 52-yard kick — restored the double-digit advantage.
The current record for most wins by a quarterback against a single team is held by — who else? — Tom Brady, who beat the Buffalo Bills 33 times in his storied NFL career. Mahomes, with 12 wins against the Broncos, is already 40 percent of the way there, his domination over Denver poised to continue for years to come.
