Wednesday night’s clash with Newcastle might be the final time Erik ten Hag marauds the home dugout at Old Trafford.

United’s disappointing 2023/24 season is drawing to a close with the club hosting their final home fixture of the season in midweek.

There are still European spots up for grabs, with United’s slump down the eighth leaving them on the periphery.

Ten Hag has struggled to mitigate an injury crisis down the stretch, but the Dutchman should receive a couple of timely boosts for the Magpies’ visit. Here’s the latest on United‘s injury situation.

Lisandro Martinez returned to training ahead of the Arsenal defeat and was “desperate” to feature on Sunday, according to his manager. However, the Argentine defender was left out of the matchday squad.

Martinez has been out for months with a calf injury and is finally expected to make his return on Wednesday night. Ten Hag is optimistic that he’ll be included in the matchday squad, but he added that the former Ajax star won’t be in the starting lineup. Martinez should earn minutes off the bench, however.

Willy Kambwala’s return means he’ll likely partner Jonny Evans against the Magpies, with Ten Hag still unable to call upon Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, and Raphael Varane.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia will also miss Wednesday’s game.

Bruno Fernandes has now missed two games in his club career through injury, but he’s another who could return to the fold on Wednesday night.

The playmaker wasn’t involved against Arsenal despite training ahead of it. He’s now had an extra couple of days to recover and could be in the squad.

United could be without Mason Mount, although his latest injury setback is thought to be minor.

Marcus Rashford has been out of action since United’s dramatic FA Cup semi-final triumph over Coventry, but the winger, who’s endured a tough season, could come back into the matchday squad against Newcastle.

Rashford, like Fernandes and Martinez, trained ahead of the Arsenal game but wasn’t involved.

Anthony Martial has also been spotted in training as of late having recovered from a groin injury, but the Frenchman isn’t expected to feature on Wednesday.
