Kylian Mbappe‘s future at Paris Saint-Germain is murkier than ever. The Ligue 1 champions have left Mbappe out of their preseason touring squad after the World Cup-winning forward made it clear he would not extend his contract with the club, which expires next year.

Real Madrid have longstanding interest in Mbappe and remain the favorites to sign him eventually, but the most recent strong interest has come from Saudi Arabia — where Al-Hilal are offering a world-record transfer fee to tempt the 24-year-old into a temporary move there.

Discussions between Al-Hilal and Mbappe have reportedly not yet started — and judging by a Twitter interaction Mbappe shared with an NBA superstar on Monday, the Saudi Pro League may have some work to do on convincing him to join.

Giannis “offers himself” to Al-Hilal

Milwaukee Bucks icon Giannis Antetokounmpo is a noted soccer fan, and has undoubtedly been keeping up with the rumors swirling around Mbappe. On Monday, he snapped a selfie and slapped a hilarious caption on it — hoping, humorously, to get a slice of the Saudi salary offered to Mbappe.

Antetokounmpo makes plenty of money in the NBA — he is set to collect a salary of over $45 million next season, the third of a five-year contract that includes a player option for 2025/26. But his tweet calls to attention the mouth-watering money that Mbappe is being offered as the Saudi league seeks to land arguably its biggest superstar yet.

Mbappe’s response

Just 32 minutes after Giannis sent his tweet, Mbappe chimed in — but only with emojis. The French superstar quote-tweeted Antetokounmpo with 13 “crying laughing” emojis, setting social media alight with speculation.

Mbappe has claimed he is happy in Paris and wants to fulfill his contract — but PSG are insistent that he renews, otherwise he will be sold in the final month of the transfer window. This fascinating saga shows no sign of slowing down soon as the new club season approaches.
