Lionel Messi held his first training session with Inter Miami under the orders of coach Gerardo Martino, a practice in which he looked happy to return to the field.
There were many smiles during the practice, Messi immediately took refuge with a familiar face, standing next to Sergio Busquets, while Tata Martino did not take his eyes off him.
He was also seen chatting with Argentine-American Benjamin Cremaschi, with whom he will share Inter Miami‘s midfield.
As is a tradition in soccer teams, the new arrivals were welcomed by their teammates with a tunnel, but given the status of Messi and Busquets, they were only treated to applause and a few pats on the back.
Messi has unleashed madness since his arrival to MLS. His presentation was a success despite the storm that almost ruined it, and the practice was followed live by more than 200 media from around the world.
Preparations begin for Messi’s debut with Inter Miami against Cruz Azul
Messi‘s debut with Inter Miami is expected to take place on Friday July 21 against Cruz Azul in the first round of the Leagues Cup. It’s already broken all records in terms of ticket prices.
With a message on his Instagram account in which he thanked fans and performers who were present on Sunday at his presentation despite the rain, Messi hinted that he’s ready to debut on Friday against La Maquina.
“I want to thank you all for yesterday! The rain made it different from how it was planned but it was still beautiful. Thanks to everyone who came, thank you very much for all the love and also to the artists who were there and, despite the conditions, sang spectacular. See you Friday again…”, Messi posted on his social media accounts.
If Messi does not take the field, he will have his second chance on Tuesday July 25 against Atlanta United in the other Group J match at the same stadium.
His MLS debut may not come until Sunday August 20, when he will be at home against Charlotte FC, where Messi‘s other mission will be to rescue Inter from the league’s basement.
