The fight that everybody is talking about – although maybe not more traditional boxing fans – is the upcoming bout between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. Now, Tyson has been handed what could be seen as an advantage as he has been granted his wish of a rule change for the fight.
Tyson and Paul will now fight in slightly unusual two-minute rounds. It should be remembered that Iron Mike is 57 years old and his boxing days are a long way behind him, while Paul is 27 and only beginning his career as a pro boxer.
By the time the fight takes place, Tyson will have turned 58.
Their fight has been sanctioned as professional under the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR), even with the changes to the usual professional format of a fight.
Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight rules
Paul and Tyson will go blow for blow over eight two-minute rounds, as opposed to the usual three-minute rounds. They will also wear 14oz gloves as opposed to the usual 10oz.
Tyson has admitted that he was the one behind the request to change the length of the rounds, although it remains something of a mystery as to why the glove weight has been changed.
“I wanted shorter rounds for more action,” Tyson said. Again, remember that he is almost 60 years of age.
“If we have shorter rounds, we’ll fight more. More action.”
When is Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson?
The anticipated Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20.
You can watch the fight live on Netflix.
