A MISSING ex-banker has been confirmed dead just days after human remains were found in Turkey.

Economics guru Korhan Berzeg, 83, had been missing since vanishing on a walk with his dog ten months ago before bones and his wallet were discovered earlier this week.

His Brit family have been braced for the tragic news of his confirmed death ever since he failed to return to his holiday home in Buyukada, near Istanbul, last June.

DNA tests have now confirmed the human remains to be those of Mr Berzeg.

His distraught British daughter, Nisa, said the family have been left furious after only finding out the news through local media.

Nisa, who has flown from London to be with her mum in Turkey, told The Sun on Sunday: “We are extremely upset about the fact that we heard only through the Turkish press.

“They called us before the police. We were already distraught but this is outrageous.”

Hundreds of Turkish police have spent the past ten months combing hundreds of square miles – but missed the body found on a river bed just two miles from where the Turkish grandad set off in June last year.

The bones were discovered by Turkish local Ahmet Gülay as he probed a problem with his village’s drinking water supply.

Gülay said: “There was a problem with the water in our neighborhood and we thought there was a burst in the pipes.

“While we were looking for the route where the pipes passed, we saw the clothes.

“A card with Korhan Berzeg’s photo used in public transportation was found in his pocket.

“His photo was intact. His credit card was in his wallet. There were bones a metre away from his clothes. There was no skull. We immediately informed the gendarmerie.”

After the discovery, his daughter, Nisa, 50, said: “We have news.

“Not good news perhaps, but news.”

She continued: “We don’t know much yet but we have been told my dad’s wallet has been found and his personal effects along with human remains 5km from the village.

“I mourned months ago… in a way this may be a better outcome for the ones left alive like my mum.”

On the morning of Saturday, June 17, Mr Berzeg had headed out on his morning walk with his faithful three-year-old doberman pinscher Tina and adopted stray dog Esmeralda.

But he never came home – and only Esmerelda showed up, all alone, some 20 minutes after they set off.

A massive police search by more than 300 Turkish officers was launched for Mr Berzeg, backed by drones and dog teams.

His other dog, Tina, was found after 74 days – and in good health.

Mr Berzeg, however, had not been heard from for 312 days when his remains were finally found.

He had been enjoying a dream retirement alongside his devoted wife, Angela, following a successful career as a top international economist.

The couple had bought a £1million villa on an idyllic Turkish island and had another rustic holiday retreat from where they enjoyed scenic forest hikes.
