The Philadelphia Phillies faced the Washington Nationals as part of the 2023 MLB Little League Classic in a game that had only 2 scoring innings, the 1st and 9th with the Nationals eventually taking the win 4-3.
Trevor Williams was the winner as he only had a two-hit ball over six innings and led the Washington Nationals to a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday night in front of the cream of the crop who are currently playing the Little League World Series.
Little League players from around the world got to see how the Nationals opened the game strong with a 4-0 lead just in the first inning, Joey Meneses, CJ Abrams, Lane Thomas, and Keibert Ruiz had a great offensive strategy as all of them put the Nationals ahead of the game.
Williams then kept the Phillies at bay
Williams also had a great run as he pitched 6 innings without a single hit, however, it was only a matter of time for the Phillies to show up and try to even the score.
The game remained scoreless from the second until the 9th inning Bryson Stott got on base with an impressive hit, then came the turn of Brandon Marsh who singled on a ground ball to center field, generating an opportunity for Bryson Stott to score.
After that, Jake Cave had some signs of life for the team as he homered, allowing Marsh to score as well and keeping the faith of a comeback, however, that was all. Next came J.T. Realmuto who struck out swinging
The main focus of the game was for the Little Leaguers from 20 teams including international teams from Venezuela, Japan, Mexico, and more to enjoy a great game at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, PA and participate in activities with real MLB players.
Meanwhile, Joey Meneses. Meneses saw the Mexican little league team from Tijuana, and spent some valuable time with kids.
