Luka Doncic has been determined to rewrite the NBA history books, and night after night he is adding a new line to his blazing career.

In the Dallas Mavericks‘ victory over the Portland Trail Blazers (120-131) Doncic starred in a new recital by signing a monstrous triple-double with 40 points (11/16 t2, 4/12 t3 and 6/6 tl), 12 rebounds and 10 assists in the 37 minutes he was on the court. Simply unstoppable.

By halftime he had already scored 30 points and in the third quarter he certified his fifth triple-double this season and the 61st of his career, the ninth with the most triple-doubles in history.

“It’s all of us, it’s not just me. All my teammates helped me make it,” Doncic assured at the end of the game showing his usual modesty.

“In the first half I tried because they didn’t make me ‘two-on-one’. In the second half I was defended by two opponents, so we just played without that.”

The Slovenian overtook a legend like Wilt Chamberlain as the player with the most triple-doubles with 40 or more points by doing it for the eighth time.

Tim Hardaway Jr. (25+6), Jones Jr. (18) and former Barcelona star Dante Exum (18+2+3) were Doncic‘s mainstay in the win over the Blazers.

“It’s awesome,” Doncic said of his teammates and how important it is for him to feel tucked in by his teammates.

“I get to rest a little bit too. It’s 4-on-3 basketball, the court is open, so we scored a lot of points,” the Mavs star said.

“We had so many open shots. I like it when I get doubled by defenses.”

Grant’s comeback from concussion

LAPRESSE

Anfernee Simons (33+8+6) and Jerami Grant (27+5) who was making his comeback after missing the last four games with a concussion, were the Blazers‘ top performers.

“It felt good to be back out there, but I wish we could have gotten the win,” Grant said.

“We let Luka have a lot of easy stuff and then we had to make an adjustment.”

“We have a lot of character in that locker room, a lot of confidence,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said.

“When you have a leader like that, it’s easy to follow.”

The Mavs lost starting center Dereck Lively to a left ankle injury in the first quarter.
