Oleksandr Usyk is on top of the world at the moment. Despite being the unified heavyweight champion, Usyk came into his fight against Tyson Fury over the weekend as the underdog.
Despite Fury putting up a very strong first six rounds, Usyk refused to put his hands down and grinded his way to a split decision win, while nearly knocking Fury out in the ninth round.

Fury’s best rounds definitely left some damage, though, which is seen in Usyk’s most recent social media post.
Usyk is still healing with cuts on almost all of his knuckles, as well as two bruised eyes and a cut over his right one. He also suffered an injury to an “impacted tooth implant”. Fury was dealing with some swelling under his eyes as well after the fight. Both fighters gave it their all and pummeled each other.
Fury had claimed in the press conference that Usyk had broken his jaw, but Usyk’s promoter came out to dispute that statement, as did Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren. Usyk did end up going to the hospital and was given a one-week recovery timeline.
Both boxers will have plenty of time to recover ahead of what will likely be a rematch in October later this year. If the first fight was that entertaining, just imagine the sequel.
