Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes displayed a rare fit of anger on the sideline late in Sunday’s Week 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium. Chris Jones was also spotted earlier in the game arguing with one of his coaches, both bad signs for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Mahomes, 28, went crazy at the officials for calling offensive offsides on a touchdown play set up by an incredible, 20-yard lateral pass from tight end Travis Kelce to wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

Chiefs players had to hold Mahomes back on the sideline as he furiously yelled at the referees for calling the offensive offsides. During his postgame press conference, he doubled down on criticizing the official.

“To take the game into his hands over a call like that, that doesn’t affect the play at all, all all, it didn’t affect anything, it’s just tough,” Mahomes said. “That’s a Hall of Fame tight end making a HOF play that won’t be shown because we threw a flag for offensive offsides.

“It takes away from not only this game and this season, but from a legendary career that Travis has had. That hurts me because I know how hard he works for it.”

Andy Reid also criticizes referees after Bills beat Chiefs

The referees called back the potential game-winning TD because Toney was lined up offsides. Officials usually warn the coaches and players about that, but not this time.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who is usually mild-manered, also criticized the officials for that call during his postgame presser.

“Usually I get a warning before something like that happens,” Reid said. “A bit embarrassing in the National Football League for that to take place. … I didn’t have a protractor out there, but a bit embarrassing.”

Mahomes was not the only Chiefs player who became heated during the game, but at least it wasn’t against one of his own coaches.

Chris Jones lashes out at his coach

Before Mahomes slammed his helmet into the ground and yelled at the officials over the offensive offsides call, Jones and one of the Chiefs coaches were spotted arguing on the sideline midway through the third quarter.

Jones shouted at the coach, who then slammed his tablet to the ground, which seemingly caught the player off guard.

There were no further incidents with Jones, who is one of the leaders for not only the Chiefs’ defense, but the entire team.

Players and coaches arguing is not rare in the NFL, but it’s something to watch for considering the Chiefs have now lost back-to-back games in front of Taylor Swift, who had never witnessed a Kansas City loss in person before last week.
