With the weather starting to heat up ever so slightly, people are turning away from their heavy winter fragrances and looking for something a little lighter. Whether you’re into florals, gourmands or something more spicy, it’s not unusual to want to try something new.

Diving into the world of perfumes can feel quite overwhelming but a great starting point is to figure out what scent family you’re a fan of and if you want something light that you barely notice or a louder scent that everyone notices when you walk into the room.

A lot of perfumes on the market aren’t quite budget-friendly, but we’ve trawled through Amazon and rounded up some of the best perfumes that won’t break the bank. What is your favourite perfume? Let us know in the comments.

Choco Musk by Al Rehab

The fragrance is perfect for fans of Eilish by Billie Eilish, a slightly more complex fragrance that content commercialisation editor Jada Jones used up so fast she had to get a second bottle within a couple of months. If you’re a fan of chocolatey gourmands then this is definitely the direction to go in. Jada says she’s received compliments on it every time she wears it.

Jada has actually tried the fragrance in the roll-on format. She said: “I saw this on TikTok and as a fan of gourmand scents decided I absolutely had to get my hands on it. It really does smell like chocolate and when I’ve worn it on dates I’ve had so many compliments.

“It reminds me a lot of Palmers Cocoa Butter, which is something I’ve been using for as long as I can remember. It’s sweet without being overpowering and I probably reapply more than I need to so I can get a fresh wave of chocolate smell. I really like this and for the price you can’t go wrong. I do find it slightly itchy when I apply to more sensitive skin areas but on my wrists and behind my ears have always been fine. If you want to smell good enough to eat then this is the way to go.”

It’s now just £4.29 on Amazon.

Barakkat Rouge 540

Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 is a massively famous scent that’s also massively expensive. As a result it’s no surprise that shoppers are often looking for a way to get something similar without forking out hundreds of pounds. The £13.98 Amazon option boasts notes of jasmine, almond, ambergris, cedarwood, rose and musk. The designer scent it’s inspired by has top notes of saffron and jasmine, middle notes of amberwood and ambergris and a base of fire resin and cedar.

One shopper said: “THIS IS A MUST HAVE! I’ve been trying to search for this perfume for a very long time but i just now found out! This perfume smells exactly like the £215 Maison Francis perfume on Selfridges!! The smell makes you stand out so much!! It makes people want to ask where i got the perfume from! It last long too! Specially when you spray it together with oil perfume or Vaseline! I will not be ordering any other perfume rather than this! AMAZINGG!”

Ariana Grande Cloud

Ariana Grande has a huge range of perfumes and they’re known for being sweet and youthful – Cloud is no exception. It opens up with fruity pear and bergamot with a touch of lavender before deepening into whipped cream, praline, coconut and vanilla orchid. It’s a true gourmand with a base of musk and woody notes to stop the sweetness being overpowering.

Cloud has pulled in over 22,000 five-star ratings on the shopping giant. One shopper said: “This is my first time buying this scent and it’s sooooo good! My new favourite and will continue to buy this scent. Good value for money and the scent reminds me of an expensive brand but can’t put my finger on the name of it. It’s lovely.” It’s now just £24.36 on Amazon.

LookFantastic has released the Yves Saint Laurent Libre Eau de Parfum for £69.

To call Libre a popular fragrance feels like a massive understatement, the ‘fragrance of freedom’ has been born into four different versions now but the classic remains our favourite. It has pulled in over 13,000 five-star reviews on the YSL Beauty website and 95% of reviewers said that they would recommend it.

The first time I smelled this my first thought was that it smells expensive, when I wear it I feel like I’m in my red bottom heels with a designer bag hanging off my arm regardless of what clothes I’ve got on. It’s a great confidence boost and the base notes of vanilla, musk and cedar sing autumn to me. It has floral and fruity notes that are perfectly wound together for the opening.

This is an elegant and womanly fragrance, it’s classy and feminine but above all powerful. The name meaning freedom makes complete sense due to the level of confidence it gives the wearer. This can easily become a signature scent worn year round but it does remind me of an autumnal morning. At the time of writing it’s 15% off at just £72.24 on Amazon.
