The Detroit Pistons (2-28) have now lost an NBA single-season record 27 straight games after Tuesday night’s 118-112 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets (15-15) at Little Caesars Arena despite Cade Cunningham scoring 41 points.
Cunningham, 22, scored 37 points in the second half on 15-for-21 shooting from the field, but it was still not enough. Detroit entered the game tied with the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers and 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers for most consecutive losses in a single season.

Philadelphia, however, still has the overall losing record at 28 games straight, a skid that bridged the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
Pistons fans once again chanted “sell the team” as the game drew to a close. Cunningham had a clutch 3-pointer and layup, but Bojan Bogdanovic was the only other Detroit player to score more than 15 points.
Cunningham scored 18 of the Pistons’ 31 points in the third quarter to keep the contest close in the final frame. Detroit even started the game with a 22-8 run scoring run.
What’s next for the Pistons?
Brooklyn outscored Detroit 53-32 in the rest of the first half to seal the fate of the league’s worst-ever team.
Pistons head coach Monty Williams will probably be the one to take the lion’s share of the blame in the media and front office.
He will be fortunate if the losing streak doesn’t balloon to something much worse. Their next test is Thursday on the road against the Boston Celtics.
Should the Pistons lose, they’ll tie 76ers’ 28-game skid and be well on the way to set a new record on Saturday at home against the Toronto Raptors.
