GOAL! BRENTFORD 2-0 LUTON

Ben Mee doubles their lead!

Brentford have been all over Luton at the start of the second half and they get their reward!

02 Dec 202316:16

Penalty shout!

Gabriel Jesus has just gone down in the penalty area for Arsenal.

His team-mates are appealing to the referee but no foul is given!

02 Dec 202316:14

There’s also been a re-shuffle for Luton

After going down injured at the start of the first half, Tom Lockyer has not come out again for the second term for Luton, being replaced by Jacob Brown.

02 Dec 202316:11

GOAL! BRENTFORD 1-0 LUTON

Another fast start! The Bees break the deadlock in the second half with Neal Maupay getting his goal firing a rebound into the bottom-left corner of the goal!

02 Dec 202316:06

‘Wolves lucky not to be behind further’

Arsenal are in full flow at the Emirates. Saka and Odegaard have put Mikel Arteta’s side 2-0 up in the first half after a fast start.

While the Gunners have not quite their midweek feat of scoring five goals in the first half as they did agaisnt Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday, they’re looking in cruise control here.

And Mail Sport’s Isaan Khan, at the Emirates today, believes Wolves are lucky not to be behind even further…

02 Dec 202316:03

HT: Burnley capitalise on their fast start

Jay Rodriguez scored within 16 seconds to give Burnley a flying start in an all-action game at Turf Moor.

Their lead was doubled by Jacob Bruun Larsen who came back into the side today and tucked away his shot after Burnley floated a ball over the top of Sheffield United’s defence.

It’s been a heated game too, with Ollie McBurnie being sent off after receiving a second yellow card for an elbow on Dara O’Shea.

HT: Arsenal get off to flying start

Arsenal have picked up from where they left off in the Champions League with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard both scoring to stun Gary O’Neil’s side early on.

The Gunners have been playing some lovely football too, with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus both combining to set Odegaard up for their second.

HT: Brentford penalty shout!

Brentford appeal for a penalty after it seemed the ball struck Issa Kabore on the arm in the penalty area.

But VAR has ruled that there was foul.

Meanwhile, Tom Lockyer has gone down clutching his leg after taking a knock just before the break – that’ll be a big concern for Luton.

Meanwhile, Brentford have had their chances in the first half but have just not managed to convert them.

RED CARD!

And McBurnie is given a second yellow and a red card! He goes up to defend a cross and catches O’Shea with his arm.

It’s a little harsh but it is a second yellow and the officials have made the right call.

Not a good start from Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

Another yellow for Sheffield United!

Things are getting a bit heated in this game, Luke Thomas takes the booking after pulling Larsen’s shirt and narrowly avoids a penalty.

02 Dec 202315:43

Brentford pressing but can’t find the opener

Brian Mbeumo has had a couple of chances in the past few minutes, sprinting forward at goal but crashes his shot into a defender to win a corner.

The Bees can’t quite take advantage though, playing the corner short before it goes out for a goal kick.

Mbeumo was back again moments later with another shot but Luton escape, blocking his attempt.

The home side have had nine attempts so far to Luton’s none – a dominant start, but no goals as yet!

02 Dec 202315:40

McBurnie could have been lucky there!

The Sheffield striker swung an elbow into O’Shea’s face and cops a yellow card for the offence.

But that could have been a lot worse for the forward as I’ve seen those given as red cards before.

Wolves starting to improve?

It’s been all Arsenal so far but Wolves are starting to get up the field.

Doyle has just whipped in a dangerous free-kick into the penalty area but Arsenal do well to put enough pressure on the oncoming attackers to see the ball go out for a goal kick.

Meanwhile, Saka’s opener was Arsenal’s 100th goal of 2023, they’ll join five other sides including Man City and Real Madrid to achieve the feat, according to Opta.

02 Dec 202315:34

A dream start for the Clarets

It’s Jacob Bruun Larsen, back in the team today, who gets the goal – I bet Vincent Kompany will be happy with his decision to bring him back in!

And it’s a poor goal to concede from Paul Heckingbottom’s side. Burnley chip the ball over the top and Larsen is there to tuck it away.

GOAL! BURNLEY 2-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED!

Just as I say it, they’ve gone 2-0 up!

02 Dec 202315:29

Kompany said he has belief in his side and they’ve started well!

Ahead of the game the Burnley manager said his side have ‘adapted’ to the Premier League and re-stated that he has plenty of belief in his side.

They’ve taken an early lead against Sheffield United at home… but Sheffield are coming back!

Oliver Norwood has just struck a long-range effort from a rebound towards goal but it just curves left of the goal.

Sheffield have also lost George Baldock early on after he picked up a knock. Jadon Bogle is on in his place.

02 Dec 202315:25

No goals at Brentford just yet!

It’s the Bees that have had the lion’s share of possession so far with Neal Maupay having the only chance of the match, heading a cross into the hands of Luton goalkeeper Kaminski.

02 Dec 202315:22

Odegaard makes it two!

Arsenal have been a joy to watch so far, the zinkhenko plays a quick one-two with Gabriel Jesus before laying the ball off to Odegaard who fires into the back of the net.

It’s his second goal in consecutive appearances for Arsenal with the Gunners in full flow here.

02 Dec 202315:16

GOAL! ARSENAL 2-0 WOLVES

Wolves are stunned here!

It’s Martin Odegaard with the second! It’s a stunning team goal with Arsenal in full flow at the Emirates!

02 Dec 202315:15

A great start for Arsenal and Burnley

Saka just can’t stop scoring can he. After a goal and an assist in midweek he’s back to give Arsenal the lead at the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez’s stunning header from a cross from Charlie Taylor will fill Vincent Kompany’s side with bags of confidence.

It’s a fabulous header too, with the Burnely man unmarked in the penalty area…

GOAL! ARSENAL 1-0 WOLVES

The goals are pouring in right now! And it’s Saka who gets his eighth goal of the season with the forward pouncing on a lose ball in the box before punishing Wolves, placing his shot into the bottom-left corner.

Another fast start from Arsenal after their goal haul against Lens in midweek.

02 Dec 202315:04

GOAL! BURNLEY 1-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED!

We’re underway and we already have a goal!

It’s Burnley who have taken the lead at Turf Moor – with Jay Rodriguez scoring after just 16 seconds!

Was Mikel Arteta a ‘clown’ to slam VAR?

While we’re on the subject of VAR, Mail Sport’s Chris Sutton has some strong words to say about how Mikel Arteta reacted after a decision went against them during their recent game against Newcastle.

Arteta had slammed officials after that match saying: ‘How the hell did this goal stand up? It’s incredible,’ Arteta said in his post-match press conference..

‘I feel embarrassed. It’s an absolute disgrace that this was allowed. For many reasons it’s not a goal.’

But Sutton had his say on Arteta’s comments. Listen to his full reaction below on Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast…

02 Dec 202314:38

Was it a penalty?

It was a frustrating night for Wolves, but were the officials right to award a penalty against them?

02 Dec 202314:35

What’s the point of VAR?

VAR has copped plenty of criticism in the past few weeks, with Gary O’Neil the latest manager to hit out at the viceo officiating system.

Interestingly it comes after his opponent in the dugout today, Mikel Arteta, slammed the system, ’embarrassing’.

O’Neil became incensed at the review system after Fulham scored a late penalty to secure a 3-2 win last weekend.

The Wolves boss admitted he had gone into the referee’s room after last week’s defeat and subsequently stated that his players’ respect for officials had cost them on several occasions this season.

‘I had a good discussion with them around the way I conduct myself. I’m trying to be respectful. There was no abusing anybody or telling them what I thought of them,’ he said.

‘But behaving respectfully has probably cost us. We’re probably seven points down on PGMOL reviews. The difference between 22 points and 15 points for the thousands of supporters who follow this team around the country is huge.’

‘It’s a battle that we want to win’ – Kompany

Vincent Kompany’s side come up against Sheffield United in a must-win clash between two sides who currently sit in the Premier League’s relegation spots.

After having won and lost against Sheffield last season, Kompany was excited about the prospect of today’s match.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: ‘I think we’ve been on a row of good performances but we haven’t had the points. We’re really looking forward to this game and it’s a battle that we want to win.

‘It’s going to be like last year in the championship.

‘Sheffield we know were our biggest opponent last season. And we’ve come up showing some good signs and have the same challenges. And now we get to face each other.

Arteta breaks his silence on Gabriel

Mikel Arteta has finally spoken on why he chose to drop Gabriel from his squad at the start of the season.

The Brazilian started the campaign on the bench for Arsenal but has since come back in to become a key figure in Arsenal’s squad.

He’ll start today for the Gunners but Arteta spoke yesterday on the decision that had left many fans scratching their heads.

‘It’s about form, it’s about how you are playing, it’s about how you are behaving and you have to earn it every single day, because you know somebody else is next to you and wants to take your place and deserves to take your place.

‘Sometimes you just need to sit down on the bench and realise things and then suddenly you become a much better player.’

02 Dec 202314:16

Paul Heckingbottom’s side to face Burnley

And lastly, Sheffield United have made three changes following their defeat by Bournemouth last week.

Anel Ahmedhodzic, John Fleck and Oli McBurnie will all start with McBurnie set to lead the line alongside Cameron Archer.

Jayden Bogle, Vini Souza and James McAtee all drop to the bench.

02 Dec 202314:14

Burnley’s team to play Sheffield United

One change for Vincent Kompany’s side today as Jacob Bruun Larsen comes in for Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

02 Dec 202314:13

Luton team to play Brentford

Two changes for Rob Edwards’ side following their 2-1 win against Crystal Palace – their first Premier League home win of the season.

Alfie Doughty has not been selected for the matchday squad after he sustained an injury in training.

He’ll be replaced by Andros Townsend who starts on the bench.

Issa Kabore steps up to the starting line-up with Tahith Chong coming into midfield.

On his selections, Edwards said to Sky Sports: ‘A tough call. Chong has been brilliant when he comes on. but i just feel Chong’s quality is what’s needed today.’

On getting the win today: ‘Every game poses different challenges. Brentford are an incredibly well organised team and it’s been our message all week.’

Speaking on today’s opposition he expects Brentford to play a ‘high tempo style. They’ll try and keep the ball going for the full 100 minutes.’

02 Dec 202314:08

Brentford team to play Luton!

One change for Thomas Frank’s side, Neal Maupay comes in to make his first start in the last three games with Saman Ghoddos to the bench.

02 Dec 202314:05

Wolves team to play Arsenal

Gary O’Neil has made four changes from the side that suffered defeat to Fulham last week.

Dawson, Bueno, Doyle and Traore all come into the starting XI with Hwang and Cunha starting up top.

It looks like the English manager has re-arranged his team from a back three to a back four with Dawson coming back into defence.

02 Dec 202314:02

Arsenal team to play Wolves

Arsenal make one change from their Champions League victory against Lens and it’s goalscorer Kai Havertz, who makes way for Leandro Trossard.

02 Dec 202314:01

Can Brentford bounce back against Luton?

Thomas Frank’s side come into today’s match against Luton off the back of two defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal.

A late goal from Kai Havertz saw the Bees suffer a disappointing late defeat to Mikel Arteta’s side, but they managed to frustrate the Gunners during the game, with Frank claiming after the game that either side could have won the match.

Despite that they sit 11th in the table having won four and lost five of their opening Premier League fixtures, winning three of their last five.

They are a tough side to beat at home, but they face a difficult opponent in Luton today, who sit just outside the relegation zone, but come into this match, buoyed by a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace.

The newly promoted side have also claimed draws against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest in recent weeks, with their previous win coming away against Everton at Goodison Park.

02 Dec 202313:55

Team news coming up in less than 10 minutes!

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Wolves have both arrived at the Emirates.

How much of an impact will Gabriel Jesus have this afternoon after making his return from injury for the Gunners in the past week?

02 Dec 202313:50

Is pressure mounting on Vincent Kompany?

Speaking ahead of today’s fixture, Vincent Kompany told reporters that despite his side’s poor form, he still has belief that he can guide Burnley out of trouble.

‘Statistics are just statistics,’ he said. ‘To me, that’s not why I’m doing the job. If I wanted to take away the risk of this happening maybe I would make different choices in life. For me I’m in it for everything that goes with it.

‘No matter what happens, when the story of this gets written however many years from now this is just part of it. I believe in myself a lot as well. That’s the truth of it.’

Yet, they’ve struggled in recent weeks in the Premier League, and pressure is starting to mount over his position at the club.

In the past, plenty of managers have already been sacked by this stage of the season, but Mail Sport’s Ian Ladyman believes Kompany should not be the first manager to be dismissed this season.

02 Dec 202313:47

It’s a cracking day at Turf Moor!

While fixrtures around the EFL and FA Cup have been postponed due to adverse weather conditions, the sun is shining today at Turf Moor and the conditions are primed for a fast flowing game.

Burnley and Sheffield United have not played eachother in the Premier League since 2021, but both sides claimed wins off eachother in the Championship last season.

In fact, in their last five meetings, both sides have secured two wins against eachother, sharing the spoils in their only other meeting.

Last time out at Turf Moor, Burnley claimed a 2-0 win against Sheffield with Johann Berg Gudmundsson netting a brace.

02 Dec 202313:43

Burnley are in the house!

Vincent Kompany’s side have arrived at Turf Moor ahead of their clash against Sheffield United.

It’s a big game for the under-pressure manager who’s side have lost all five of their last outings in the Premier League and sit bottom of the table having just won one game.

Questions have been raised over his tenure as the Clarets manager, but today they can rise above Sheffield to 18th in the league and take points away from Paul Heckingbottom’s side, who sit two places ahead of them on five points.

How has Gary O’Neil transformed Wolves this season?

Arsenal will need to guard against complacency today as they come up against a very dangerous Wolves side.

Gary O’Neil’s side are currently mid-table and despite coming into this match off the back of a 3-2 defeat by Fulham, the Wanderes have claimed some big results of late, including a 2-1 win against title rivals Tottenham and another 2-1 win against defending champions Man City.

The Gunners have won four of their last five meetings against the midlands outfit, who have scored in 12 straight Premier Leagues, winning four, drawing three and losing five.

The man Arsenal will need to watch today is Wolves forward Hwang Hee-Chan who has nine goal contributions in the Premier League this season, second only in the competition to Mohamed Salah.

02 Dec 202313:37

Arsenal flying high at the top!

It’s been a tale of two sides this week for Mikel Arteta’s side, grinding out a 1-0 win against Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium, before trouncing Lens, scoring five goals in the first half of their 6-0 win.

They currently sit one point clear of City and Liverpool at the top of the table and can put some more distance between their title rivals.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsdale made his return between the sticks against Brentford, and while he did look a little shaky, kept a clean sheet during the match.

Will he start again today? It’s likely David Raya could be named as their starting goalkeeper for today’s match.

Kai Havertz has started to find the back of the net scoring in his last two appearances, notably claiming their late winner against Brentford, while the Gunners have welcomed back Gabriel Jesus – who also scored during their win against Lens.

Can Arsenal make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League this afternoon?
