Aaron Rodgers’ political career ended before it even began. Just a couple of weeks after independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. nominated him as one of his possible running mates, the US presidential candidate crossed his name off the list.
This past March 12, Kennedy Jr. published a list of those to whom he considered offering the position of vice presidential candidate. Among these names stood out Rodgers and former wrestler turned politician Jesse Ventura.
RFK Jr. also named four career politicians to join him on the upcoming election ballot: Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Sen. Rand Paul, Andrew Yang, and Nicole Shannahan.
In the end, Kennedy settled on Shannahan as his running mate. The 38-year-old lawyer and philanthropist leans more towards the values and proposals of the Democratic Party, to which she belonged a few years ago, like Kennedy.
And what about Aaron Rodgers?
At the time, Kennedy explained that he had thought of Rodgers because of his “star power and independent zeal.” In the past, the New York Jets quarterback has shown that his political and social tendencies are far from the ordinary and, more often than not, his comments are polarizing.
Although the news went viral on social media and numerous specialized media in New York gave it extensive coverage, Rodgers never commented on it.
The Jets signal-caller may not even have been aware of Kennedy’s initial announcement since he was on a trip to Costa Rica organized by Behold Retreats, a company specialized in the therapeutic consumption of ayahuasca.
Rodgers’ controversial views
Among the former Green Bay Packers quarterback’s most memorable comments is his claim that the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting was “a government inside job.”
However, he has also been against vaccination, particularly against COVID-19. This is without counting his support for the consumption of ayahuasca and the legalization of psychoactive drugs.
