Last week, buzz surrounded New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers after reports surfaced about an innovative surgery on his torn Achilles. Rodgers gave a health update during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” saying, “I think, as Kevin Garnett said, ‘anything is possible.'”

To provide insight into the situation, Dr. David Chao discussed Rodgers’ surgery and recovery on Jim Rome‘s show. He acknowledged the surgery’s innovation but clarified it’s been around for over a decade. While it can aid early strength, it doesn’t accelerate the body’s natural healing process.

Regarding Rodgers’ potential return this season, Dr. Chao expressed skepticism, noting there’s only a “snowball’s chance” of seeing the four-time MVP back on the field in January. He emphasized that if Rodgers does return, it’ll be thanks to his rehabilitation efforts and limited play rather than the surgery itself.

“It’s a snowball’s chance to play this year, but if he does, it’s not anything directly to do with the surgery. It’s just a matter of rehab and playing somewhat limited”, Chao said.

Wilson needs to step up his game

In light of this, the Jets are likely to depend on their backup quarterback for now. With Rodgers unlikely to return this season, Zach Wilson is set to be the uncontested starter for the New York Jets. Wilson faced a tough challenge against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, completing just 44.4 percent of his passes for 170 yards, with a touchdown and three interceptions.

Looking ahead, Wilson has a chance to redeem himself this Sunday as the New York Jets face the New England Patriots. It’s important to note that the Patriots posed a significant challenge for Wilson last year, making this an opportunity for him to seek redemption.

In summary, the recent surgery and potential return of Aaron Rodgers have captured significant attention in the NFL community. While the surgery is innovative, it’s not a novel procedure. Dr. David Chao expressed doubts about Rodgers’ return this season.
