Sean Dyche has received a double boost as he bids to solve Everton‘s acute goal shortage.

On top of new signing Beto’s positive performance and debut goal in the EFL Cup win at Doncaster came the news that Dominic Calvert-Lewin does not need surgery on his facial injury and will be back in action after the international break.

Beto will go straight in for his Premier League debut in the clash with fellow strugglers Sheffield United on Saturday after transforming Everton and impressing Dyche with his hunger as a half-time substitute on Wednesday.

‘He looked how we hoped he would, ‘ said Dyche. ‘A physical presence with the ball but also stretching the pitch. The biggest thing to me was his desire. He can run, but he runs hard and he wants to get into the box. That’s a powerful thing for a striker.

‘The body language and intent he drives forward with was impressive. That’s what we thought we had seen of him and we’re pleased we saw that at Doncaster. He’s only just got here, but that laid down a marker for him to keep building on.’

Everton fired blanks in their first three League games for the first timebut Dyche hopes Beto’s arrival will inspire his team-mates to re-discover the scoring touch.

‘If you get goal scorers scoring, it often releases other players to go and score, they feel freer,’ he added. ‘We have to have the mindset to score from everywhere on the pitch.

‘He’s had a pre-season [with Udinese] so he’s up for it [playing at Bramall Lane]. He’s made it clear he’s desperate to get involved as quickly as possible.’

Beto could soon be in tandem with Calvert-Lewin, whose unfortunate injury curse continued when he suffered a facial injury in the 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

Dyche added: ‘It’s touch and go this weekend but after the international break I can say he will be clear straight away.

‘He does not need surgery but there is a minor situation on his sinus area that is delicate. We have got to be careful. The good news he has managed to train through it. We have managed to keep him fit in his body.’
