Japanese phenom Shohei Ohtani is not leaving Los Angeles after all, he just became the highest-paid athlete of any sport after signing a new contract with Los Angeles Dodgers. The generational two-way star is signing for the next decade and an excess of $700 million, the biggest contract in any sport, period. But getting to this point has been a thrilling roller coaster ride of epic proportions. Ohtani had multiple offers on the table, there were literally about 10 MLB teams trying to get him but only three actually had a chance. By the time this past week started, there were only Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays. Then the world of baseball collapsed for a bit after a report that Ohtani had chosed the Blue Jeys started being questioned.

“Astonishing” – Japanese fans delighted after MLB star Ohtani wins AL MVPAP

Shohei Ohtani broke Toronto Blue Jays fans’ hearts

For literally hours, there were many Toronto Blue Jays fans celebrating what appeared to be a final decision from Ohtani. Eventhe folks from Dodgers Nation wrote an article that confirmed Shohei had chosen to go to Canada. Other beat reporters even stated Shohei Ohtani was spotted at the Toronto airport, which turned out to be inaccurate. What mattered was the player’s final word and the announcement was finally made early on Saturday. Shohei Ohtani broke records and he won’t even have to leave the city in which he already lives right now. The Dodgers won the lottery with this two-way star and they are well aware.

After Julio Urias left the institution due to his deplorable legal issues, the Dodgers needed to make a statement with the next pitcher they signed. Shohei Ohtani was the ideal player because not only is he at the same level as a pitcher. Ohtani also has the potential to become one of the all-time great sluggers. Just last season alone, he already broke several single-season all-time records that hadn’t been touched at all since some guy named Babe Ruth was still active. After this news, you can be certain that the late great Kobe Bryant must be smiling from heaven. People need to get ready to finally see Shohei Ohtani play for a team that can actually help him win championships. No offense to the Angels.
