Josh Giddey’s family has remained silent regarding accusations that the Oklahoma City Thunder player has an inappropriate relationship with a minor. However, in recent days, a source close to the family assured that they believe he is being deceived.
The bomb exploded in Giddey’s face on November 23, when images began to circulate of him next to a girl, presumably a minor, with whom he is supposed to have a romantic relationship.
Neither the player nor anyone close to him has commented anything about it. The team and head coach, Mark Daigenault, have also remained silent and have kept the player on the floor.
For its part, the NBA began an investigation into the matter, as did the police in Newport Beach, California, where the images of Giddey and Livv Cook were supposedly captured.
Family claims Josh is being “royally stitched up”
Since the scandal broke, Giddey’s family has remained silent, but close sources say they have given him his unconditional support.
“This kind of situation would be very trying for a family that is pretty normal other than having a 21-year-old multi-millionaire son playing in the NBA,” the source told the Australian newspaper Daily Mail.
The source also assured that Josh’s parents and younger sisters “are the most down-to-earth people you could meet. They’re very humble.”
“I thought there’s something more to this because he’s not like that,” the source said. “The consensus is he’s been royally stitched up,” he said.
The aftermath of Josh
In recent days, Daigenault assured that he will keep the player on the court as long as he does not receive an order that prevents him from doing so. So far, the coach has had the support of the board in this regard.
Thunder fans have also given him their full support, but fans in other NBA stadiums have not. Just on Wednesday, the player received a loud boo from the stands of the Target Center, home of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The situation seems far from being resolved, and in the meantime, Josh Giddey’s future in the NBA, and perhaps in basketball in general, is in the balance.
