Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Kenny Pickett found himself at the center of rumors suggesting he refused to dress as the backup to Mason Rudolph in a recent game against the Seahawks.

Pickett, addressing the speculation head-on, strongly denied these rumors during a media session.

Steelers’ quarterback situation

To understand the context of the rumors, it’s essential to note that Pickett has been on the road to recovery from an ankle surgery.

Despite being designated as questionable for the Week 17 clash, he was inactive for the game, prompting speculations and reports that questioned his commitment to the team.

Opening the media scrum on Tuesday, Pickett made a powerful statement, “I saw reports out there that I feel like were attacking my character and how I am as a person, not even getting into a player standpoint of it.”

The quarterback expressed his disappointment over the false reports circulating on social media, emphasizing the personal nature of the attacks.

Refuting the allegations made by Pittsburgh radio host Mark Madden and Steelers Now, Pickett clarified, “There was no talk of me being a backup quarterback this week in terms of being a 2.”

Expressing his dismay over the lack of proof or basis for such claims, he called out the unfounded nature of the rumors.

Looking ahead to the Steelers’ last regular season game

Providing clarity on his current status, Pickett announced, “This week I’m now the 2. They feel good four weeks out of the surgery for me to dress and be the 2.”

As the Steelers prepare for a crucial regular-season finale against the Baltimore Ravens, Pickett affirmed his commitment to the team, ready to fulfill the role of the backup quarterback.

Despite the challenges posed by his recovery, Pickett shared his competitive spirit, stating, “As a competitor, you want the ball.”

In the face of adversity, Pickett expressed his commitment to supporting Mason Rudolph and the team.

Recognizing Rudolph’s performance, he acknowledged the dynamic of one man’s misfortune becoming another’s opportunity.

Pickett’s focus remains on being ready to step in when needed and continuing to contribute to the team’s success.

“Mason played well when he got in there. I have a ton of respect for Mason. Everything he’s done and what our team has been doing. So now my job that I’m back healthy is to be the backup. If something happens, if he goes down, be ready to go and continue to support him the way I’ve been,”Pickett concluded.
