Simon Brown, 47, was found dead in Thailand on Saturday

Known affectionately as “Browny”, friends and family have said his unexplained death comes as a huge shock.

The machine operator from south Wales was “outgoing” and enjoyed travelling, particularly to Thailand.

His close friend Mark Davies said: “It’s just a total shock, it was so unexpected. He wasn’t ill. There was nothing wrong with him.

“Everyone knew him. He was a crazy bloke – really outgoing and always up for a laugh.”

He added: “We don’t know anything at the moment as to the circumstances around it. It only happened on Saturday so we know very little.”

Simon, from Trallwn in Pontypridd, was described as “supremely popular” by friends.

His family are trying to raise the funds to get his body back to the UK following Saturday’s tragic discovery.

A Go Fund Me page set up in his name has so far raised just over £2000 of its £10,000 target.

The page says his family have to “arrange transport from Thailand to the UK, which is a costly process”.

It reads: “As a family, we are now trying to bring Simon back home so that we can lay him to rest at his home at Swansea.”

Simon travelled to Thailand “several times a year” according to the tribute.

Mark said of his friend: “He was a really hard worker as a machine operator and when he wasn’t working he was always on holiday. In particular he loved going to Thailand.”

Simon’s family thanked those who had donated to help bring him home, writing: “Thanks to all those who have reached out and sent messages of condolence, and we appreciate any help you can give.”
