In the NFL, it takes a full team of contributors to win the Lombardi Trophy. There will always be standouts, like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce for the Kansas City Chiefs, but sometimes some key players get glossed over.

For this year’s Chiefs, that player is L’Jarius Sneed. Although football purists and analysts recognize what he’s accomplished this season, the casual fan might not really notice just how good he’s been.
L’Jarius Sneed is the Chiefs’ unsung hero
His teammate, All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones, knows an elite player when he sees one. Per News-Press NOW:
I’ll say it right now. L’Jarius Sneed had an All-Pro year, should’ve been an All-Pro. The guy’s been making plays all year. You could pull up his film, I don’t think a receiver had over 100 yards on him the whole year. When you’ve got a guy like that and a physical aspect at that, you see him jamming guys in the ground. You’ve seen a highlight of him just pushing Tyreek (Hill) to the ground.. He (adds) a whole ‘nother dynamic to his defense that I think Spags was able to utilize and take advantage of.
Despite consistently shutting opposing receivers down all season, Sneed somehow wasn’t voted to the All-Pro or even Pro Bowl teams. Ahead of him were Patrick Surtain II, Sauce Gardner, Jalen Ramsey and Denzel Ward. There’s no denying how great those corners are, but Sneed was a force on one of the best defenses in the league.
Sneed’s two interceptions this season came in a win over the Los Angeles Chargers and a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He didn’t give up a single touchdown all season. Despite being heavily targeted by opposing quarterbacks, he erased all the receivers that came his way. The numbers speak for themselves.
His greatness was on display in the AFC Championship, when he saved a touchdown by forcing a fumble at the goal line against Zay Flowers. That very well may have been the most important play of the game.
Odds are he’ll get plenty of chances in the Super Bowl to make more, and he most likely won’t disappoint.
