The US Women’s team is not just the best team in the world, but it’s also the most stylish. The scenes from the team’s hotel as they made their way on to the bus ¡for their first match of the tournament against Vietnam looked more like something out of Paris Fashion Week rather than a sports fixture.

The players dazzled both the fans and press that were standing outside the Sofitel Hotel in Auckland- where they’re staying for the duration of the tournament. They were dressed in suave single-breasted ‘gender-free’ tailored suits designed by Nike and Martine Rose. A handful of players wore matching yellow sunglasses too.

“I wanted something that felt directional. I wanted it to have a sleekness, a realness…less of a directional fashion suit, and just a great tailored suit.” said designer Martine Rose when discussing the design in an exclusive interview with ELLE.com

USWNT’s social media account posted several ‘fire’ photos of the players dressed in their ‘business attire’… and followers couldn’t get enough.

“The drippppp”, commented Orange Country Soccer Club on their Twitter post of the players all dressed to impress. “Wow, how elegant… USA all the way,” said one fan.

On the pitch, things perhaps weren’t so stylish. The team managed to grind out a three-nil win, but the result somewhat flattered them. They lacked ruthlessness up top and were wasteful in the final third. Had it not been for Vietnam’s defensive deficiencies, the scoreline would have likely been much less.
