A man has died at Hakea Prison in Perth’s south-east, becoming the third inmate to die at the maximum security facility in less than three months.
The 28-year-old was found unconscious in his cell on Thursday afternoon.
A Department of Justice spokesperson said prison staff had provided first aid until paramedics arrived, but the man was unable to be revived.
A report will be prepared for the coroner, but the death has been deemed not suspicious.
The incident comes just six weeks after a 27-year-old man died following a fire in his cell.
The inmate was found unconscious by prison staff and was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.
And it follows the death of a 51-year-old man who suffered a medical episode at the prison.
He later died in hospital.
