‘This Is a NO!’: Eva Longoria, 49, Criticized for Wearing See-through ‘Not Elegant’ Dress at Cannes Festival

Hollywood star Eva Longoria was among the celebrities in attendance at the Cannes Film Festival. Despite glowing and looking radiant in a see-through dress, Longoria was criticized by social media users who deemed her garment “not elegant.” Years ago, she attended the prestigious ceremony in a dress that was unexpected.

Among the flurry of glamor, “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria, 49, set the red carpet ablaze with her striking semi-sheer gown. She was in attendance for the 10th Global Gift Gala.

Pictures and videos shared online show Longoria working the camera while posing in her sparkly number that draped all the way down to the floor. The see-through dress covered her nude-colored undergarments and was accessorized with luxurious silver jewels, including bracelets, rings, and a pair of diamond hoop earrings.

To complete her look, Longoria opted for a chic, sleeked-back bun but left a few strands of hair on one side loose to frame her face. She wore matching silver heels to complement her dress and adorned herself with light makeup. When it came to what people had to say about her ensemble, many were left unimpressed with her dress and how she looked.

Expressing love for Longoria as a person but disdain for what she wore, an Instagrammer wrote, “I love you Eva, but this is a NO!!” Another echoed the same sentiment and added, “It looks really cheap, something Jennifer Lopez would wear.”

Other people expressed their surprise to see Longoria wearing such an outfit in the first place. “Surprised she is also wearing one of these see through gowns!!! Like Eva but sorry this is TACKY and not elegant!!!!” exclaimed an onlooker.

Another simply commented, “That I didn’t expect!” while someone else noted, “Wow didn’t even recognize her.” “If a woman wears this dress in the street, she’ll be in trouble with the police,” stated another opinionated user.

Although Longoria garnered a substantial amount of critique for her look, there were some admirers who lauded the actress and film producer.

In the comment section of an Instagram Reel showing a slow-motion close-up of Longoria strutting and smiling at photographers, a fan gushed, “49 and killing it 😍.” Referring to the same video, another admirer swooned, “Stunning 😱✨.”

Fans weren’t the only people who thought Longoria looked amazing in her sheer sparkly gown as the designers of the dress, Yulia and Dasha Yanina, took to Instagram to dedicate two separate posts celebrating the star. The founders of Yanina Couture (the name of their designer brand) shared two videos from their business account.

One showed the two of them standing on either side of Longoria posing for pictures in front of the Global Gift Gala’s backdrop. The second displayed Longoria standing alone for photos as the cameras flashed. “Fantastic EVA LONGORIA wearing custom YANINA Couture at Global Gift Gala Foundation Gala♥️ @evalongoria,” penned the designers in one of their captions.

Longoria’s Yanina Couture gown comes a long way from what she opted to wear for her very first Cannes Film Festival years ago. All the way back in 2005, the “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” talent rocked a thin-strapped gold knit dress that only cost $40.

Discussing her choice to go with the cost-savvy and non-designer gold gown with a media outlet in 2022, Longoria explained, “I was like, ‘I’ll just wear this one, this knit gold, that feels right.’ Nobody would have known it was a $40 dress.”

She had purchased the garment at a store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and admitted that at the time, she was unaware of what the Cannes Film Festival was. Longoria also revealed that she was even confused when she was asked by the former president of L’Oréal who the dress was done by.

“I was like, ‘What do you mean? It’s mine,'” Longoria recalled humorously. Nevertheless, the $40 dress that she chose on a whim ended up striking the right chord with the public and fashion enthusiasts: “Everybody just loved the dress, and I was like, ‘it’s just from Melrose!'”

It was from that moment that Longoria learned an important lesson about how fashion, at the best of times, has more to do with the confidence and style one exudes when wearing something than it has to do with how much a piece of clothing costs. After all, according to Eva Longoria, “It’s not the dress, it’s the woman who wears the dress.”

Since her debut at the Cannes Film Festival, Longoria has gone on to wear stunning designer pieces from talented fashion powerhouses like Alberta Ferretti.

She wore a beautifully abstract ruffle gown from the Italian fashion designer for her 2022 Cannes appearance. Like her recent see-through dress, this garment was also sheer and featured intricate beading work all along the bodice.
