Three brothers, the youngest of whom was just nine-years-old, and their family friend have been identified as the four people killed in a horror crash south-west of Northam overnight.

The major crash squad has launched an investigation into the fatal crash, which occurred in Clackline just after 12.30am on Friday morning.

According to WA Police, the four male occupants — aged 45, 21, 19, and nine — were in a silver Nissan Navara ute travelling east on the Great Eastern Highway when the vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

All four occupants sustained catastrophic injuries and died at the scene.

Wheatbelt District Superintendent Gene Pears revealed the three young men were all members of the same family, including the 21-year-old driver.

The 45-year-old, seated in the passenger seat, was a friend of the family visiting from New South Wales.

Pears said the incident was an unimaginable tragedy and a confronting scene for first responders, who were now receiving support.

It is understood police officers were the first to attend.
