Chilling posts on social media stating “today’s the day” have emerged following a triple stabbing at a Sheffield school.

The social media account put out a series of posts in the early hours of Wednesday morning, including one about the account holder’s alleged experience at Birley Academy. Hours later, the school was in lockdown after a boy, 17, was said to have gone on the rampage with a broken glass bottle.

South Yorkshire Police officers rushed to the scene and have remained there throughout the day. It has been reported the attack involved a broken bottle and terrified students had to hide under tables after the school “lockdown” alarm was activated.

Two adults who suffered minor injuries were checked over, as was a child who had been attacked. A 17-year-old boy remains in police custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

In one of a series of social media posts, put online in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the account holder wrote: “Today is the day. A calling from the Lord Jesus Christ has been cast upon me. To do what God almighty thinks is necessary.”

In another, they named a woman and wrote: “If you still work here, don’t come today,” before referencing another woman in a separate post and writing: “I haven’t f****** forgotten you either. Absolute traitor.”

The account holder also wrote about their experience at Birley in a lengthy post. In it they said their experience was “alright” as they saw some “familiar faces” who were “suddenly” their “mates.” The post said: “Don’t know why. Maybe there was some sort of agenda against me, by deceiving me and thinking they were on my side. I do not know.”

The owner of the account then wrote about a boy who he said “beat me up because I p***** him off.” He said: “I knew he had a knife and was going to stab me…And speaking of teachers, they were always mardy and depressed every single day. taking their anger out on me all the time.

“This is where my brain problems started, in the Birley f****** Academy. That school is the reason why I am the way I am today. My soul is broken. My brain is confused and doesn’t work properly…”

A statement from South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers are at the scene after responding to reports of an incident involving a sharp object at the school on Birley Lane at around 8.50am. Two adults have been taken to hospital with minor injuries to be checked over. A child is also being checked over in hospital after being assaulted.

“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody. Police will remain at the scene throughout the day to provide assurances to those in the school and the local community.”

The school said in an update at 10am that all students and staff are “safe”. They wrote on social media: “This morning we went into lockdown as a precaution following an incident at the school. This was not a decision taken lightly but the safety of students and staff is paramount. All students and staff are safe. We are working closely with the police and will update shortly.” An email sent from new headteacher Vicky Hall asked parents not to turn up at the school and reassured them that everyone is “safe and well”.

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said she was “disturbed” to hear about the incident at The Birley Academy. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, she said: “We’re in touch with the school and my thoughts are with those injured and all the school community affected by this frightening situation.”
