British fighter Tom Aspinall has broken his silence after agreeing to fight Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295.

The 30-year-old is currently ranked fifth in the UFC heavyweight rankings and will now take on the second ranked heavyweight in Pavlovich on extremely short notice.

This came after UFC president Dana White revealed that Jon Jones tore a tendon in his pectoral muscle and will be out for eight months, which meant he had to withdraw from his fight with Stipe Miocic UFC 295.

Speaking about his upcoming bout, Aspinall – who is from Salford in Manchester – said: ‘The rumours are in fact true. I’m fighting Sergei Pavlovich in two weeks time.

‘I’m fighting the most dangerous guy in the UFC on two weeks notice, but I’m willing to put it all on the line. This is my absolute dream and I’m f***** doing a Bisping.

‘Obviously my phone is going absolutely f***** insane right now… but I’m going to be staying off social media.

‘Quite frankly I have two weeks to train for this s*** and I’m going to get myself as ready as possible. I don’t have time for social media right now.

‘I appreciate all the support. I’m sure there’s a lot of hate out there as well, love you too and I’ll probably see you on the other side.’

Fans across social media today have said it is the ‘worst news ever’ that Jones’ title defence against Stipe Miocic on November 11 has been called off.

Many believed the fight would have cemented Jones’ reputation as the greatest UFC fighter of all time.

However, his absence has paved the pathway for Aspinall who faces a huge task in defeating Pavlovich.

The British star will be looking to follow-up his emphatic KO win over Marcin Tybura at UFC London in July.
